In a recent interview with The Hollywood Handle, Simon Racioppa, one of the co-showrunners of Invincible, revealed information on the split of season 2 into two parts due to unforeseen difficulties.
Inspired by Robert Kirkman’s comics, the animated superhero series on Prime Video chronicles the journey of Steven Yeun’s Mark Grayson, a teenage superhero son discovering his skills.
Regarding season 2’s release plan, Racioppa said that although the first four episodes were already released in November, the release dates for the remaining episodes are still pending official confirmation.
He added that unexpected problems that developed during production impacted the decision to split the season. Furthermore, Racioppa stated that the second half of season 2 will air “after a few months.”
When Does Part 2 of Invincible Season 2 Premiere?
The division of seasons has become a common practice in the landscape of television networks and streaming services. To be precise, Netflix, the streaming behemoth, has chosen to employ this tactic for several of its well-liked shows, including seasons four and five of Stranger Things, You, Ozark, and The Crown.
This strategy usually involves publishing part 1 first, then part 2 after a brief break of about a month, albeit in Ozark’s instance, the break was three months.
Specifics on the underlying problems were not included in Simon Racioppa’s explanation for postponing the release of Invincible’s season 2 part 2.
According to speculation, the delay cannot be related to the Hollywood strikes of 2023, which had an impact on the scheduling of split series like Chucky season 3 because of disagreements over fair compensation for writers and actors. While it is seen less likely that the strikes affected Invincible’s production in season 2, they might have an impact on the upcoming season 3.
The projected duration of “a few months” suggests that the unanswered storylines at the end of Invincible Season 2 Part 1 might not be resolved until sometime in May 2024.
Given that animated shows typically require a longer production time, the release date may fall closer to May or possibly into the summer of 2024. Though the precise premiere dates for the other four episodes are still unknown, Racioppa appears to know the schedule well, even though it’s not quite ready for the general public.
